Ryann Carter: Co-President
Ryann is a junior at UNM majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology and Biology, and this year will mark her third year as Co-President of BUGS. Ryann’s main career interests involve bioarchaeology, osteology, wildlife conservation, and behavioral ecology, and she currently works for Natural Heritage New Mexico. As an avid animal lover and a former Australia Zoo volunteer, Ryann loves to spread passion about wildlife through service even though she plans to pursue Anthropology in graduate school. She has experience conducting field work in the Rio Grande Bosque and loves networking with local organizations to create opportunities for UNM students to immerse themselves in both local and global wildlife issues.
Hannah Paul: Co-President
Hannah Paul is a sophomore majoring in Biology and designating in Interdisciplinary Studies through the Honors College. Her plan after college is to attend dental school and possibly specialize in orthodontics. She is the community service chair of the UNM Pre Dental Society, the treasurer of the American Association of Public Health Dentists, and a member of the Chi Omega women’s fraternity. She enjoys pretty much everything outdoors, traveling, reading, playing tennis and volleyball, volunteering, participating in conservation efforts, and lots more. She is looking forward to a great 2016-2017 school year as Co-President of BUGS is excited to discover and provide resources and outlets for its members to get the most out of their involvement.
Fabiha Sabin: Co-Vice President
Fabiha is currently a senior majoring in Medical Laboratory Science and minoring in Psychology. She has been a part of BUGS since freshman year and this is her second year serving in the board. Fabiha is mainly interested in human disease processes and prevention both in the individual and population level. She plans to pursue a career in pathology, lab medicine and rural epidemiology. Fabiha is currently a member of the Health Sciences Student Council and has previous experience in volunteer outreach opportunities as well as networking with various organizations on and off campus. She enjoys reading, stargazing, traveling locally and globally, hiking, and learning about the biodiversity of life. Fabiha is excited to be Vice President and to bring new opportunities for the members of BUGS this year.
Devon Lagueux: Co-Vice President
Devon is a sophomore biology major at UNM. She is a research assistant in the Cripps Drosophila lab, and plans to go to medical school. Devon was secretary of BUGS last year and is excited to continue working with the club as co-VP this year. Her hobbies include playing violin for the Health Sciences Orchestra, writing, crochet, and volunteering for AHISD and Christus Santa Rosa Health System in San Antonio, Texas.
Emily Johnson: Treasurer
Emily is a junior at UNM majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. This is her third year as an officer for BUGS and her second as treasurer. She has a passion for nature and animals, but is interested in neuroscience as well. Emily is currently employed with the US Geological Survey as a student contractor, where she works with bats. She also has volunteer experience with Wildlife Rescue of New Mexico. Emily enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, and photography. She is very excited to be your treasurer this year!
Brittany Capraro: Secretary
Brittany is a Junior at UNM, double majoring in Biology and Criminology. She has a passion for forensic science and pathology and plans to go to medical school. She is a volunteer at the UNM Hospital where she works with the Transplant Services. Her hobbies include drawing, nail art, volleyball, hiking, and Netflix binge-watching. Brittany is looking forward to being the new secretary for the Biology Undergraduate Society.
Rebekkah Varjabedian: Communications Director
Rebekkah is a Junior at UNM studying Biology and minoring in Chemistry. She currently is a volunteer at UNMH working with Child Life and is a chair member of LoboTHON which raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and UNM Children’s Hospital. Rebekkah is interested in human medicine, wildlife protection, nutrition, and genetics research. Her hobbies include photography, graphic design, painting, and hiking. Rebekkah is excited about continuing on the traditions of the Biology Undergraduate Society and making new ones as well.
